Switch 9-15-06
15 Sep
Tonight was the opening night of switch, and what an awesome night! We had somewhere between 35-38 Jr Highers attend, many of them first time visitors. I wasn’t really sure what to expect since it was the first night in almost 4 months since we have had Switch, and I was totally blown away.
Many of the students showed up early, since we started it earlier last year. We decided to remove the hour of “hang out” time before the actual service started since it didn’t really serve it’s intended purpose. It was good, but it wasn’t necessary. Instead, we started promptly at 7pm with the opening song that led right into the service.
We changed the entire format of the service as well, keeping all of the main elements, but shifting them around to better suit our needs and create a better flow of the night. After tonight, it seemed to work a lot better than it did last year. There was more of a natural flow to the night, and it helped enhance the various parts of the evening.
As I mentioned earlier, there were a lot of first time attendees, and it was awesome! Last year, we were very “girl heavy,” meaning that we had more girls than guys show up. This time, we were very “guy heavy.” It was great since I have more guy leaders than girl leaders, so it balanced out. Every element of the service just clicked and flowed smoothly (although the inbetween parts were a little rough). There was great response from all of the students throughout the night, and I can’t wait until the next one.
