I told some students that I would post my notes from my workshop at winter camp titled “Manifestations of the power of God.”

I am a coffee lover. I admit it. I love the taste of coffee. More importantly, I love the small “buzz” I get from it. Am I addicted to coffee? Probably. I get headaches if I don’t have at least one cup a day. I frequent a local Starbucks regularly to get my fix. I don’t drink the decaf stuff, unless I want to be only slightly “moved” (decaf still has caffeine, just not as much).
A very dear friend of mine got me thinking about coffee from a new perspective: Christianity. We as Christians are not unlike coffee. Some people like it, some don’t. Some people like us, some don’t. Coffee has a very distinct flavor. It’s usually noticed right away. So is Christianity. There is an aroma to coffee. There is an aroma to Christians.

When I moved to Brentwood to be a part of Innerface, a generous family in our church opened up their home to me. It was a new transition for me, being out on my own as it were. I had to adjust, as did the family. Dinner was at a certain time, and if I missed that time for whatever reason, I was on my own. I was used to doing laundry whenever I needed to, and now I had to squeeze it in when no one was home or try and get my clothes in before someone else in the house did. The bathroom that I use is the public house bathroom, so I have to keep it “user friendly” in case of visitors. I heard conversations that visitors didn’t hear.

So tonight, I led The Uprising, Innerface’s college group. For a while, I wasn’t sure what I was going to talk about, then as I prayed and looked through my resources, I came across a book that I haven’t read in a while, “Whatever Happened to the Power of God?” by Dr. Michael L. Brown. The book talks about a lot of different things pertaining to why we don’t see a move of God like the book of Acts or even like we did 100 years ago.

This is part 2 of the Best Question Ever, a discussion that I led for The Uprising, our college ministry at our church. I opened part 1 with the idea that many of us have made huge mistakes, and after looking back, wonder how we got there. We discovered that we are masters at self-deception, and can easily talk ourselves into doing something that we know is not good for us. We walked through the 4 questions that we TYPICALLY ask when facing a decision instead of the Best Question Ever.

This week, Matt and Lynn did a small group emphasis on Wednesday night’s Innerface. They broke everyone up into their respective small groups as an attempt to get new students plugged in. Over all, it was a great night and great strategy.
My part in this was to lead the college group, called “The Uprising.” For the discussion, I talked a out the Best Question Ever, and broke it into two parts, since I also will lead the usual Sunday night discussion this week as well.

Tonight, Matt and Lynn again asked me to lead the college group, since they were just coming off of At Hell’s Gate. I talked about “Getting God’s Attention.” But I started with an interesting foundation.

This last Wednesday and Thursday was Innerface’s “At Hell’s Gate.” Needless to say, it’s the BIGGEST outreach that Innerface does all year, and this year was no exception. Over the two nights, over 120 people came to Christ. It was absolutely awesome! As crazy as it sounds, I love this time of year, mainly because the last several have had some sort of outreach of this type and magnitude. And every year, more and more souls come to Christ. It’s amazing.

Tonight was college group at our house, and since Matt and Lynn were gone, they asked me to lead the group tonight. No problem. they asked me to discuss the topic, “Can a person who is genuinely a follower of Christ lose their salvation?” It amazes me what people do when they are hit with the hard reality of truth when they are not at a place to accept that truth.
